27–28 September 2025 marked an inspiring milestone for WG2, with the successful completion of the Training School “Enhancing the knowledge base of ecosystem services in small and medium island environments” on the island of Samos, Greece.
The training brought together 20 participants from across Europe and beyond, representing diverse ecosystems, sectors, and disciplines. Together, we explored how to enhance the understanding of ecosystem services in small and medium islands that are uniquely rich in natural and cultural capital, yet face distinct sustainability challenges.
Over the course of two days, participants engaged in four training sessions that combined theory and hands-on exercises. The programme concluded with a field trip, allowing participants to apply different ES assessment methods directly within an island-scape.
